Strong colours and solid facades for a school in the sea gap on Haramsøy

A building for the people

This modern facility is designed to serve both the primary and secondary schools in the area, while also serving as a lively gathering place for the islanders outside of school hours. The colourful extension bridges the gap between the existing buildings and the new addition, creating a seamless and functional unity of the entire building complex.

- We have focused on continuing the concept from the preliminary project to the finished building. Here, the characteristic facade on the second floor of the new building is prominent," says Jorunn Beate Lillebø Lande, Civil Architect MNAL from Norconsult.

Rockpanel has supplied two types of facade panels in the Rockpanel Colours series. Rockpanel is made from compressed basalt stone and is a fireproof, robust and weather-resistant choice for facades. 

- "Haramsøy School is our first acquaintance with Rockpanel, and it has been positive," says Lande.

Characteristic and prominent facades for the sea gap

In addition to choosing building materials that will last for many years, it was also very important for Lande to choose vibrant colours for this school building.

- "We wanted a playful expression where facade panels in fresh green colours interact with the window placement and window format. We worked hard to secure the colours from the preliminary project. Rockpanel turned out to have facade panels with the colour and function we were looking for," says Lande and elaborates:

- "Note in particular that the facade panels are also used in the external ceiling below the second floor. This, together with careful detailing and execution, helps to emphasise the concept.

The sharp and clear colours are a unique feature of these facade panels. Despite the harsh weather conditions this building could face due to its location, the colours will stay fresh for many years. Harald Helland, Sales Manager Rockpanel Norway, has a few final words about the building project at Haramsøy: 

- "Out on Haramsøy, the weather can be fresh and wet. Rockpanel, which is made of stone, is hardly affected by rain and moisture. With their durable colour, the panels will stay fresh and beautiful and make a positive contribution to the environment for many, many years. "The contractor has done a great job with the panels, and you can see from the details that this is a material that is good to work with. I particularly notice the fine details in the roof overhang on the top of the building. We are very pleased with both the collaboration and the final result.
